"Wabi-sabi is a Japanese aesthetic that values change and the signs of it. And it is a worldview. I am not aware of anyone applying that aesthetic to personal beauty, but wabi-sabi is a powerful way to cleanse the palate and clear the air of hyperbeauty.
Wabi-sabi
Fresh perception
through an observer’s discernment
Idiosyncratic
Subtlety
Real
Flawed
Appreciation of nature and its effects
Autumn leaves underfoot
Visible wear, use, life lived
Age is a virtue
Richness
Impermanence
True character
Hyperbeauty
Stale perception
through a consumerist and celebrity-obsessed lens
Generic
Overstatement
Artificial
Perfect
Debasement of nature and its effects
Golf course
Eradicated wear, use, life lived
Youth and its affectations are privileged
Poverty and craving
Changelessness
Fluff"
